Employer terms, in plain words

How listings, claims, posts, featured placement and billing work for employers on VC Careers.

Last updated

Who these terms cover

These terms are between VC Careers (“we”) and any organization with a listing on vccareer.com, and the people who manage that listing. By claiming a listing, joining, or posting news, you agree to them. Our Terms of use and Privacy policy apply too.

Your listing

Basic listings

We list employers we find in public sources, like an employer's website or a chamber of commerce directory. A basic listing shows your name, industry, cities, size, a one-line summary and where we found it. If something in it is wrong, tell us through the contact form.

Member listings

Members get a full profile. You can add:

  • a logo: a PNG or SVG up to 1 MB, and a PNG must be at least 512 by 512 pixels
  • a summary under 160 characters, in plain text
  • a description up to 4,000 characters, with paragraphs, lists and links only
  • up to 10 career types you hire for
  • the cities where you have sites, your website and your careers page

Keep your listing true. Pick only career types you hire for, and use only a logo and words you have the right to use.

You let us show your listing, logo and posts on VC Careers, in quiz results, and in the preview image we make when someone shares your profile.

Claiming a listing

To claim a basic listing, find it on the Join page and join at any tier.

  • If the email you pay with is on your listing's website domain, the listing is yours right away. A free email address, such as Gmail, never counts.
  • If not, we check the claim by hand within one business day.

While we check, you can sign in and write news posts, but your posts stay hidden and you cannot change the listing, its logo, its career types or your team until we approve the claim. Any featured placement waits too.

We may ask you to show that you work for the employer.

Membership and posting

Every tier includes the full listing and a place in quiz results when you fit. Tiers differ only by how often you can post news, and every tier is billed yearly.

  • Annual: 1 post per year
  • Quarterly: 1 post per quarter
  • Monthly: 1 post per month
  • Weekly: 1 post per week

Periods follow the calendar in Pacific time. A year starts on January 1. Quarters start in January, April, July and October. Months start on the 1st, and weeks start on Monday.

  • You get one post each period. An unused post does not carry over to the next period.
  • Drafts do not count. A post counts when you publish it.
  • You can edit a published post during its own period without using another post. After its period ends, it can no longer be edited.
  • A published post cannot go back to being a draft.

What you can post

Post openings, company news and events for people in Ventura County. Posts may not include:

  • discriminatory language
  • multi-level marketing
  • ads for unpaid “internships”

A post has a title under 80 characters, a summary under 160, and a body up to 5,000 characters with paragraphs, lists and links only. It can have one link button labeled Apply, Register or Read more. Links must start with https:// or http://.

Events show their date and place, and they leave the news feed after their date.

Your posts must follow the law, including the laws on hiring.

Reports and removal

Posts go live as soon as you publish. Anyone can report a post. When a post gets three reports, it is hidden until we review it.

We can hide any post, and change or hide any listing, that breaks these terms or the law. If you break these terms, we may end your membership.

Payment and renewal

  • You pay through Stripe, by card. We never see your card number.
  • Prices are shown on the Join page and in checkout.
  • Your membership renews each year until you cancel.
  • We email the account owner 14 days before a period ends.
  • The account owner can change the card, see invoices, switch tiers or cancel under Manage billing in the dashboard. That opens Stripe's billing page.
  • If you cancel, your membership stays on to the end of the period you paid for.
  • When you add featured placement, it is added to your current membership's billing.
  • Stripe emails your receipts.

If your membership lapses

If you cancel or a payment fails, your membership stays on to the end of the period you paid for, plus 14 days of grace. When a renewal payment fails, the 14 days count from the end of the last period you paid for.

We check every day. After the grace period:

  • your profile goes back to a basic listing
  • your news posts are hidden, not deleted
  • any featured placement ends
  • we email the account owner

Join again to bring your profile and posts back.

Refunds

If a charge looks wrong, write to us through the contact form and choose Employers and membership. We will look into it.

Your team

The person who pays is the account owner. The owner can invite editors by email from the dashboard. Editors can edit the listing and write posts. Only the owner can manage billing and the team. You are responsible for what your team posts.

Your stats

Your dashboard shows counts for the last 30 days: profile views, appearances in quiz results, featured appearances, clicks to your site and post views. They are counts only. We never tell you who looked or who took the quiz.

Public agencies and schools

Cities, the County, school districts and colleges get a free listing at the Annual level. To set one up, write to us through the contact form.

Our founding partner

Curri is our founding partner. When Curri is featured in quiz results, its card follows the same label and the same fit rules as every other featured employer.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. When we do, we post the new version here and change the date at the top.
