Terms of use, in plain words

What you can expect from VC Careers, and what we ask of you when you use it.

About these terms

These terms cover your use of vccareer.com, which VC Careers runs (“we” and “us”). By using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

If you are under 18, read these terms with a parent or guardian.

Employers with a listing or a membership also agree to the Employer terms. Our Privacy policy explains what we do with information.

What VC Careers is

VC Careers is a free career quiz, a directory of employers in Ventura County, and news from local employers. Students and schools do not pay. Employers pay for membership, which adds a full profile, news posts and a place ahead of basic listings in quiz results when they fit.

The quiz is guidance, not advice

The quiz suggests career types from your answers and from public data. It uses the same rules for everyone, and the same answers always give the same results.

It is a starting point. It is not career, school, legal or money advice. Talk with a counselor, a teacher or someone who does the work before you make a big decision.

Numbers come from public sources and can change

Pay, openings and training times come from public sources, such as the California Employment Development Department and O*NET. Each number shows its source and date. Pay figures are county medians: half of workers earn more, and half earn less.

Numbers change, and a source can be wrong or out of date. Check with the school, program or employer before you count on a number. Data and sources explains where each number comes from.

Employer listings and news

Basic listings come from public sources. Members write their own listing and news posts, and those words are theirs. We do not check every claim an employer makes.

In the directory, members show first and carry the Member tag. Listings that are not members say Basic listing.

A news post is not a job offer from us. To apply, go to the employer. If something looks wrong, use Report on the post, or tell us through the contact form.

What you send us

When you send us a message, a form or a report, keep it true and about you or your organization. Do not send:

  • anything that breaks the law
  • threats, harassment or hate
  • another person's private information
  • spam or ads

We may delete messages that break these rules.

Using the site fairly

Please do not:

  • try to get into parts of the site or its database that are not public
  • send automated traffic that slows the site down, or fill our forms with fake entries
  • copy large parts of the site to build another product
  • pretend to be someone else, such as an employer or a school

We may block anyone who does.

Our name, logo and writing

The VC Careers name, logo, design and writing belong to us. Employers' names, logos and posts belong to them. Data from public sources keeps its own license: O*NET data is used under the CC BY 4.0 license.

What we can and cannot promise

We work to keep the site correct and running, but we cannot promise that it always is correct, complete or available. We offer the site as it is.

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for decisions you make based on the site, or for losses that come from using it.

Changes to the site and these terms

We may change the site or these terms. When we change the terms, we post the new version here and change the date at the top. If you keep using the site after that, the new terms apply.

Problems and disputes

If you have a problem with the site, tell us through the contact form first. Most problems can be fixed that way.
